Pearl Perry Ruffolo Memorial - Educational Scholarship

Pearl Perry Ruffolo was born in Kenosha on May 20, 1925.  She was the seventh of ten children of Emma and Louis Perry.  She was educated at Grant Elementary, McKinley Junior High, and Bradford High Schools.  For a few years she was employed at Coopers, Inc.  On November 21, 1942, she married Laurence Ruffolo and had three children: Lynn, Jo Mary, and John.


Pearl was a charter member of the Pleasant Prairie Woman's CLub, which was organized in 1964.  She as very active in all the cancer drives that the Club participated in during the years.  She died of cancer herself on October 17, 1968.  She was the first charter member to die while active in the Club.


The PPWC Pearl Perry Ruffolo Memorial - Educational Scholarship was set up in her memory as a yearly Club project to aid Pleasant Prairie students in furthering their education.  Area High School seniors submit applications for consideration; a committee then selects a recipient and the scholarship is presented at a Spring meeting.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must:

· Reside in Pleasant Prairie, WI

· Be a current High School Senior, graduating in Spring of 2023

· Have a minimum 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 unweighted scale (or equivalent)

· Provide a copy of their High School Transcript

· Submit at least two (2) letters of recommendation with the completed application from responsible adults who know the applicant well, excluding any family members.

· Submit a personal statement which has a minimum of 200 typewritten words.

· Submit all application answers either printed or typed in blue or black ink.

Judging Criteria

 Your application will be screened by the PPWC Education Committee. The committee members will review each submitted application carefully and give each application thorough consideration. Applicants will be scored on the following:

· Academic Achievement

· Leadership and Character

· Community Service Participation

· Financial Need

To be considered for this scholarship, return the following items:

· Completed 2 page application, including any additional pages 

· High School Transcripts

· (2) Letters of recommendation from responsible adults who know you well, excluding any family members

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 20, 2023, and mailed to:

Scholarship winners will be notified by the last week of April, 2023 and will be honored at the PPWC General Meeting on Thursday, May 11 , 2023. The winning applicants will receive their scholarship money at the beginning of their second semester, freshman year of college.

A person attending a PPWC event who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the photographer, and/or the event organizers, and/or contact PPWC at P.O. Box 580260, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158, in writing of his/her intentions and include a photograph. PPWC will use the photo for identification purposes and will hold it in confidence. 


By participating in a PPWC event or by failing to notify PPWC, in writing, your desire to not have your photograph used by PPWC, you are agreeing to release, defend, hold harmless and indemnify PPWC from any and all claims involving the use of your picture or likeness. 


Any person or organization not affiliated with PPWC may not use, copy, alter or modify PPWC photographs, graphics, videography or other, similar reproductions or recordings without the advance written permission of an authorized designee from PPWC.
